Description from the seller
Before us is a classic example of mass-market (commercial) interior painting of the second half of the 20th century, created to decorate home living rooms, hunting lodges or studies. Subject and composition The painting is a hunting (animalistic) landscape depicting birds (ducks or pheasants) taking flight over a freezing pond or swamp. Foreground: Dry autumn grass and reeds, dusted with the first snow. Center of the composition: A pair of wild birds in flight, enlivening the static landscape. Background: Silhouettes of trees in the haze, executed in characteristic gray-brown and ocher tones, conveying the atmosphere of late autumn or early winter. Artistic features and origin Technique: The painting is done with oil paints on canvas. The author uses an express method (probably a combination of a brush and a palette knife) to quickly create the texture of branches and grass, which is typical of serial commercial works. Author: Signed "A. The "Barker" in the lower right corner is a so-called "trade" name. In the 1970s and 1980s, entire guilds of artists existed in Western Europe (especially Germany, Holland, and the UK) and the US. They produced similar cozy landscapes en masse, based on popular templates for furniture stores and department stores. Frame: A massive, ornate, gilded frame with a light fabric insert (passe-partout) emphasizes the era of creation. Such frames were at the peak of popularity in the 1970s and 1980s and were intended to give the painting visual volume and solidity.
