JOAN SERRA MELGOSA (Lleida, 1899 - Barcelona, 1970).
"Interior".
Oil on panel.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Dated in 1956 according to the label on the back from Sala Parés in Barcelona.
Painting dimensions: 81 x 65 cm; 104 x 89 cm. (frame).
The work preserves on the back an original label from Sala Parés in Barcelona with the identification of the author, title, dimensions and date.
Provenance: private collection.
Condition: good overall state of conservation, in keeping with its age.
Joan Serra Melgosa was a Catalan painter trained at La Llotja under the tutelage of Francesc Labarta. In 1917 he was one of the founders of the group Els Evolucionistes along with Josep Sisquella and Joan Francesc Dalmau.
Throughout his career he exhibited in various European and American cities, maintaining a close link with Sala Parés in Barcelona, where he presented his work continuously from 1927 until the end of his life. His painting is characterized by the expressive strength of color and by particular attention to the effects of light.
