Description from the seller
Maurizio Castagna is an Italian contemporary artist born in 1961 in Piazza Armerina. Trained artistically between Sicily and Piedmont, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Turin and initially approached the figurative tradition, influenced by great Italian and international masters such as Caravaggio and the Sicilian painters of the 20th century.
Over the course of his career he evolved his artistic language, moving from figurative to surrealism and metaphysical painting, and then progressively arriving at an increasingly abstract and expressive research. His works are characterized by an intense and personal use of color, dynamic compositions, and a strong emotional and gestural component.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including Milan, Florence, Berlin, Dubai, New York and Shanghai, earning recognition and a consolidated presence in the contemporary art scene. His production ranges between painting and mixed media, with works in private collections and in international circuits.
His artistic research focuses on expressing inner sensations and transforming emotional lived experience into visual language, with a style that combines chromatic energy and freedom of composition.
