Description from the seller
Colorful and early work by Broer Dubbelsteen.
Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 80 x 50 cm
Dimensions with frame: 92 x 62 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Netherlands
Broer Dobbelsteen born as Johannes Anthonius (Johan) van den Dobbelsteen (Mierlo, 1936 – 2019) studied at the Academy for Industrial Design in Eindhoven. In the first years after completing his studies he still worked as a designer, but from 1964 he worked as a full-time artist. His work was characterized by primary colours and large fields, rugged forms and a playful approach to the subject. He belonged to the expressionist movement, which largely defined the face of the first half of the twentieth century. Experimentation, spontaneity and freedom were regarded as the most important principles. The use of bright colours and simple shapes is typical of Dobbelsteen's work.
He was partly inspired by the Cobra movement. His paintings are widely represented among institutions, art dealers, galleries and private collectors.
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framery, celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
