This Morrison "The Patriot," one of the most distinctive pen names, steeped in history and coveted from the World War II era, presents itself in a truly enviable state of conservation. The body and cap, made of resin in a sober olive drab military color, maintain a deep, clean, and uniform luster, reflecting a magnificently cared-for surface completely free of the usual cracks, fissures, or discolorations so common in battle-use pens.
The original solid 14-karat gold nib stands out superbly: it bears the classic engraving of the New York brand "MORRISON - 14K - N.Y." impeccably sharp, with its falcons perfectly aligned and the iridium tip whole, symmetrical and without the slightest deformation or torsion. The black ebonite grip section preserves its original jet-black tone without opacity. The feed is clean, structurally perfect, aligned, and in an exact central position.
Regarding the metal details, the characteristic Art Deco clip with the inscription "MORRISON" in relief and the cap band maintain a clean, bright gold finish with excellent tension. The defining and most iconic element that crowns its extremely collectible value is the three-dimensional gold insignia of the Great Seal of the United States (the American Eagle) on top of the inclined cap. As seen in the macro shots, the military emblem retains spectacular definition in its reliefs, free of the wear caused by rubbing often seen.
A crucial factor for this piece is the extraordinary clarity of its imprint. The longitudinal engraving on the body remains clean, deep, and perfectly legible: “The Patriot” - MORRISON FOUNTAIN PEN CO. - NEW YORK, N.Y. U.S.A., finished at the lower line with the corresponding patents. This testifies to the minimal level of friction the surface has suffered over decades.
Mechanically, this model from the Morrison patriotic series operates with the reliable lever-filler system, whose golden lever fits firmly and flush with the side of the body.
In conclusion, this is a showroom specimen, highly evocative, robust, and preserved to a historical standard of the highest demand. A must-have piece of the writing archaeology of wartime eras that will enrich any high-level collection.
Happy bidding!
