Broer Dobbelsteen, born as Johannes Anthonius (Johan) van den Dobbelsteen (Mierlo, 1936 – 2019), studied at the Academy for Industrial Design in Eindhoven. In the first years after completing his studies he still worked as a designer, but from 1964 he worked as a full-time artist. His work was characterized by primary colors and large areas, rugged forms and a playful approach to the subject. He belonged to the Expressionist movement, which largely shaped the face of the first half of the twentieth century. Experimentation, spontaneity and freedom were regarded as the main principles. The use of vivid colors and simple forms is typical of Dobbelsteen's work. He drew partial inspiration from the Cobra movement. His paintings are widely represented among institutions, art dealers, galleries and private collectors.
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we utilize restorers from the professional association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, please let us know.
