Description from the seller
Daniel BEEN (Rotterdam 1885 - Baarn 1967)
Oil painting on panel.
Among the many artists who chose Baarn as their residence at the time was also the painter Daniel Been, born in Rotterdam in 1885. As a child he always liked to draw, and as he grew older he had but one wish: to become a painter! His father did not share that view and thought an office job would be more suitable for him, because steady work and a regular income are surely much better, aren’t they? Daniel no doubt thought otherwise, but he obeyed. Thus he came to work as a junior bookkeeper at the firm Weduwe van Nelle in Rotterdam. He did not stay there long, for he did not feel happy there. After this brief clerical job he became a pupil at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam. Here he acquired the knowledge that he could later use well as a painter. He painted like a true Rotterdammer, many works of the harbours. He made flower still lifes, bought the necessary flowers from a florist, and produced in his studio the paintings of these bouquets. He mainly produced oil paintings in large and small sizes, but also watercolors and pastel drawings. What he painted was in a naturalistic manner, a style that would remain popular with the art-loving public.
Painting in good condition with a frame showing light signs of use.
Note. The painting will not be sold to the USA due to import duties.
