Lucebert, born as Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk in Amsterdam, was a leading Dutch poet, painter and graphic artist. He was a central figure within the Vijftigers and closely connected with the COBRA movement.
His visual work is characterized by expressive, often mythic figures, spontaneous lines and bold colors, while his poetry emphasizes freedom, vulnerability and resistance to convention. The famous motto “Alles van waarde is weerloos” captures his vision aptly. Lucebert received various prizes and his work is represented in museums such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. He is regarded as one of the most influential artists and poets of post-war Netherlands.
In this ink drawing he depicts a 'cruel judge'. The work is signed and dated.
