Description from the seller
A joyful explosion of imaginary worlds.
At first glance, Ralf Altrieth’s painting seems to burst forth in a free, instinctive momentum. Then the gaze lingers—and gradually discovers a more complex world, traversed by moving shapes, unexpected meetings, and surprising balances. Nothing is fixed. The work continually evolves with distance, light, and the time spent before it.
In this universe, the border between abstraction and figuration remains deliberately unstable. Possible silhouettes surface, depths are suggested, never anchored. The eye is engaged, set in motion. Seeing becomes an active, almost physical experience.
But beyond their immediate energy, Ralf Altrieth’s works settle permanently into space. They settle in by their density. By their presence. And by this rare ability to transform the space in which they take place.

CRITIQUE ET PRESSE:
"In this sense, Ralf Altrieth’s pictorial poems are a pure childish chant. From the crucible of improvisation, he conjures a pristine world made of spontaneous joys and strong impulses."
— Dr Friedhelm Häring, art historian and museum director
"His gesture- and color-driven writing describes a world open to new voices and experiments never attempted. His canvases and works on paper demonstrate that painting remains a major expression on the contemporary scene."
