Éclat de roses is an original oil painting from the 1970–1980 period, created in France by École européenne (XX), depicting a floral still life with roses and sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
A striking European 20th-century European school floral still life, created with a post-impressionist sensibility, featuring a loose, textural handling and rich chromatic depth. The work depicts a vase with roses arranged in an oval-format composition, with abundant greenery and flowers at various stages of opening, forming a scene of notable decorative presence.
The painting stands out for its energetic, impastoed, visible brushwork, especially in the treatment of the petals, leaves, and light areas. The artist builds the forms through patches of color and matérico touches, moving away from meticulous description to focus on the vibration of the whole, the chromatic intensity, and the sense of floral freshness.
Stylistically, the work is within the tradition of European post-impressionist floral still life, heir to late 19th-century painting and developed broadly during the 20th century. The composition preserves a classical structure — vase, flowers, and dark background — but the execution is modern and expressive, with free brushwork, marked light contrasts, and a vibrant palette.
The contrast between the dark background, in bluish and greenish tones, and the luminosity of the flowers, resolved in whites, pinks, yellows, ochres, and peach tones, stands out. The central pitcher, treated with warm reflections, acts as the compositional axis and provides balance to the scene. The oval format reinforces the piece’s elegant and ornamental character.
A work of great visual impact, suitable for collectors of floral painting, European 20th-century still life, and high-quality decorative compositions.
It is presented framed. The frame is sent as a gift and is not part of the artwork’s appraisal.
