Description from the seller
This beautiful oil painting on panel shows a forest path winding through a quiet and atmospheric landscape. The work is by Antonius (Anton) Matthias Hirschig (1867–1939), a Dutch artist best known for his connection to Vincent van Gogh. In 1890 Hirschig stayed at the Auberge Ravoux in Auvers-sur-Oise, where he lodged in the attic room next to Van Gogh during the last weeks of his life. Van Gogh mentioned Hirschig several times in his letters and followed with interest his development as an artist. This painting reveals Hirschig's love of nature, with a refined portrayal of light, mood, and the calm of the forest.
