Description from the seller
A0000003789
The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot shows an outstanding state of conservation, with an overall elegant and well-preserved appearance, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.
The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical brushed finish, retains a deep and uniform shine. The surface very much keeps its original lustre, showing only light micro signs of surface use, normal for a vintage piece, with no visible losses of plating or notable dings. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, maintaining its original tension.
The black resin body also presents a very clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro marks of use are observed, typical of the passage of time, but no cracks, deformations, or structural damages. The engravings of the model “642” and the brand “M” on the rear part of the body remain sharp and perfectly legible.
The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with its contours well defined and no appreciable material losses.
The 14C gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585”, is visually in good condition, although the bi-color wear has worn. The nib tines are correctly aligned and the iridium point shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.
The pen has been reviewed and tested, ensuring proper writing function.
Overall, it is a very well-preserved example, with an aesthetically very attractive presence and discreet signs of use that are coherent with its age.
Conservation recommendations
To preserve this piece in optimal condition, it is recommended to use high-quality inks specific for fountain pens, avoid pigment inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if it is not used for some time, dry properly before storing, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.
It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
Happy bidding!
