"Occursum"literally means "meeting," and indicates an active, sought-after movement. Not a chance encounter, but two forces moving toward each other until they touch.
In the work, the "occursum" is the living threshold where 1,400 opposing directions come into contact: like two seas that meet without immediately merging.
1,400 strips of paper overlapping millimeter by millimeter,two shores seeking each other.
From right and left, thousands of vertical strips advance in opposite directions, brushing against each other layer by layer. In the center, they meet. They touch.
The inspiration comes from those rare places on the planet where two seas gaze at each other but don't immediately mix. Where the foam marks the living boundary between different currents. "Occursum" is this boundary: the exact point where the "other" ceases to be distant and becomes contact.
Symbolically, it can be the encounter not just with the other,but also with the unknown, or with a part of oneself.
Each strip is cut and placed by hand. One by one, the tension builds towards the center of the composition, where the light plays with the reliefs and reveals the friction, the vibration, the stillness that follows the impact.
It is a work on distance and threshold: what happens when two forces, two histories, two identities truly meet?
A work not just to be looked at, but to be experienced. For those who feel that every true encounter leaves a mark.

Samantha Bonanno is a Milan -based paper artist whose research focuses on the transformation of paper into modular forms that tell stories of space, meaning and emotions. Each work is born from a concept, a deep reflection on a word or a phrase, as a starting point for a creative journey. Through cuts, folds and manual assembly, she makes the invisible tangible, she tries to bring to consciousness concepts that are often forgotten, creating compositions that are aesthetically powerful and emotionally engaging.
