The work
Large-format magnetic photo-lithography by Maurizio Galimberti, derived from a manipulated Polaroid SX-70, in which the title "Luci nell’ombra" finds immediate visual translation: on an olive-green, almost nocturnal background opens a luminous stain in the shape of a stretched star, a blade of light diagonally cutting through the space, revealing a cobbled pavement barely legible in the shadow. The composition is entirely built on the chiaroscuro relationship and the tactile quality of the Polaroid, with the characteristic dark violet-brown edges that attest to the artist’s chemical-manual intervention on the emulsion. It is one of the most abstract and contemplative proofs of Galimberti’s production, close in sensibility to informal painting and to the lyrical monochrome, yet intimately tied to instant photography as original matter. Copy 1/5: this is the very first exemplar of an edition of only 5.
