Lajos Kassák - Composition / Kompózitió
Linocut - hand-signed - 1960 Galerie Denise Verlag Paris.
This is a rare print in “Red” after a linocut by Lajos Kassák.
The edition was published as part of Kassák’s first exhibition in France: See the photograph illustration. The original is from 1921 and was first depicted in the Hungarian avant-garde magazine MA in 1921.
The present linocut was part of a limited edition from the 1960s. It was never framed and comes from the estate of Carl Laszlo. The same motif appeared in “Black” as part of the famous edition La lune en rodage III.
Lajos Kassák (March 21, 1887 – July 22, 1967) was a Hungarian poet, writer, painter, typographer, sculptor, essayist, editor, theorist of the avant-garde, and occasional translator. He is regarded as the “primus inter pares” (Carl Laszlo, 1966) of the major art styles of European modernism (Constructivism, Futurism, Bauhaus, De Stijl, Abstraction-Création).
Edition Panderma Carl Laszlo: Carl Laszlo (Hungarian: László Károly; born July 16, 1923 in Pécs; died November 8, 2013 in Basel) was a Hungarian-Swiss art dealer, collector, psychoanalyst, and author. He is considered one of the most important collectors, connoisseurs, and promoters of modern (especially Hungarian) art after 1945.
