The Neapolitan artist, and adopted Roman, after figurative beginnings and then informal, in 1963 he was among the founders of the "Gruppo operativo r" ('r' stood for 'romano') in a fluid climate of associations among artists often of short duration, which had as common denominator the will to overcome the poetics of informality.
Carchietti in the mid-1960s was part of the 'Gruppo Strutture visive', together with other sculptors present in the National Library who also adhered to the gestalt tendency. Among these, like D'Eugenio and Vanarelli, Carchietti also devoted himself mainly to painting, not without episodic incursions into the field of sculpture, always coherent with the object of his research. In particular, in the transition from one field of artistic practice to another, the artist moves from the iteration of the optical representation of the "monade circolare" to "invasions spaziali" (Di Genova) with variations on the theme of the porthole and the circle.
