Description:
For sale: a rare color lithograph by the renowned Dutch painter and sculptor Karel Appel, co-founder of the CoBrA movement.
Artwork Details:
• Artist: Karel Appel (1921-2006)
• Title: Untitled - Three Faces
• Technique: Color lithograph on paper
• Edition: Épreuve d'artiste, i.e. "Artist's Proof". This is a special off-market edition, produced for the artist himself and particularly sought after by collectors.
• Signature: Hand-signed in pencil at the lower right "Appel"
• Inscriptions: "épreuve d'artiste" in pencil at the lower left
• Publisher: Editions Empreinte, with dry stamp visible at the lower left
• Period: Circa the 1960s/70s, a typical period of Appel's graphic production
Dimensions:
• Framed: approx. 50 x 66 cm, as measured with a tape measure
• Frame: Original wooden frame, with protective glass
Condition:
The work is in good overall condition considering its age. The paper shows light yellowing typical of the period, more evident on the margins. There are slight undulations of the paper and small foxing spots visible in the photos. The frame shows normal signs of use. The photos are an integral part of the description.
