Antoni Tàpies, Post-Scriptum, original lithography and serigraphy from the 1960s in Spain, in brown, black, red, white and grey, unframed and in good condition, sheet size 35.5 × 55.5 cm, weight 2 kg.
Description from the seller
This composition shows three lithographic prints by the Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, originally published in the prestigious French art magazine Derrière le Miroir (No. 200), published by Maeght Éditeur in Paris in 1972.
Characteristics of the Works
These pieces are part of Antoni Tàpies' graphic production and bring together several of the most recurrent and iconic symbols of his informalist language:
The Alphabet and Calligraphy (upper lithograph): It presents blurred handwritten letters on a red background, crowned by a large gestural stroke in the form of a loop or number. Tàpies used the letters for their caligraphic–oriental value as well as for their enigmatic meaning.
The Cross / X (lower-left lithograph): A large brown crosspiece crosses in a rounded manner a background of expressionist black brushstrokes. The cross symbolizes spirituality, human presence, death, and frequently functions as the initial "T" of his own surname.
The Footprints (lower-right lithograph): Black imprints that evoke the naked human footprint on an ochre, material-like background, which emphasizes his obsession with the body, existentialism, and the connection with the earth.
Size of each sheet 37.5 x 55.5 cm. Never framed.
