Description from the seller

José Nicolas is a French photojournalist and gallerist, born in 1956 in Casablanca. His career is marked by war reporting, humanitarian missions and, more recently, the valorization of photographic heritage.

Career
A former paratrooper, he discovered photography through contact with reporters present on the operation theatres. From 1984, he worked with Bernard Kouchner and the Médecins du Monde missions, which he documented in Lebanon, in Kurdistan, in Afghanistan and in the South China Sea. He then joined the Sipa Press agency, for which he covered numerous international conflicts for about a dozen years.

His work

His work blends:

- war photojournalism;
- humanitarian testimony;
- portrait and documentary photography;
- landscapes shot in analog medium format as part of a more personal approach.

Gallery activity

For several years, José Nicolas has also devoted himself to promoting photographic collections and is cofounder of Atelier/Galerie Taylor, a Parisian space dedicated to 20th‑century photography and collector's prints.
