Description from the seller
This watercolor was painted by the Dutch artist L.H. de Stuers (1830-1869). The work, dating from 1854, depicts a barque braving a wild sea. With a sensitivity to atmosphere and movement, the artist has impressively captured the power of the waves and the vulnerability of the ship. The dark skies and the turbulent water enhance the dramatic character of the scene and reflect the fascination with the sea that was characteristic of much nineteenth-century maritime art.
Despite its age, the work is in good condition. There are a few small stains, appropriate to the age of the paper, which underline the historical character of this watercolor, over 170 years old.
Dimensions: 33 x 48 cm
Dimensions with frame: 36 x 51 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the industry association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to make use of this, please let us know.
