Watercolour painting 'Ruïne in rivierlandschap' by Cornelius Pearson (1855), a 19th‑century British Classical work, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
This watercolor depicts a tranquil stream with a ruin in the background, perched on the summit of a steep mountain. The landscape breathes a serene and romantic atmosphere, with the calm water and the imposing mountain complementing each other in beautiful balance.
The watercolor was created by the English artist Cornelius Pearson. Pearson was a landscape and topographical painter, but also worked as an engraver. He was born in Boston, Lincolnshire, and left at a young age for London, where he apprenticed with an engraver. Later he dedicated himself to painting, mainly in watercolor. Between 1843 and 1879 he exhibited 145 works at Suffolk Street, in addition to four works at the Royal Academy between 1845 and 1872, and also with the New Watercolour Society and other institutions. Pearson was moreover one of the oldest members of the Langham Sketching Club. Two of his views of Wales are in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.
