Description from the seller
Winter Landscape with Tower House – Signed “MEINDERS”
Subject: Tower House in Winter
Artist: Signed “MEINDERS”
Technique: Oil on hardboard (Masonite)
Artwork size: 24 x 19.5 cm
Frame size: 40 x 37 x 3.5 cm
Art Historical Classification:
The present work is a high-quality example of Dutch landscape painting from the post-war period. Motif-wise, it depicts a romanticized winter landscape with a historic tower house, an ice-covered body of water, and figures. Such compositions were especially in demand in the Netherlands between the 1950s and 1970s.
Technical Analysis:
The reverse side confirms the use of hardboard as the painting support. This technique was widespread in the second half of the 20th century and allows for a fine, detailed painting style.
Dating:
Probably 1955–1975.
Condition:
Very well-preserved overall impression. No obvious color losses or major damage. The frame is high-quality and presumably contemporaneous with the painting.
Collector’s Assessment:
A decoratively strong Dutch winter landscape painting with good craftsmanship and attractive presentation. In particular, the architecture, lighting, and the high-quality frame elevate the work above many comparable export paintings.
