Artist biography: Nguyen Robert (born 1958).
Born in 1958 in Bên Tre, an authentic village nestled in the heart of the Mekong Delta, Nguyen Robert is a Franco-Vietnamese artist whose work is distinguished by a singular fusion of Asian traditions and Western artistic influences. From an early age, he was fascinated by the rural architecture of his surroundings, the lines of traditional houses, the volumes of floating markets, and the shadows cast by water palms—elements that would form the basis of his visual language.
Having always been based in his native region, Nguyen Robert developed over the decades a deeply contemporary, modern, and decisively architectural style. His paintings explore structures, lines, urban rhythms, and geometric abstraction while retaining a poetic sensibility unique to Vietnamese culture.
His dual Franco-Vietnamese heritage enriches his approach: he borrows from the West the rigor of modern compositions and the boldness of contrasts, while his Vietnamese soul infuses softness, spirituality, and fluidity into his works. The result is a pictorial universe where modernity meets timelessness, where geometry dialogues with light, creating paintings of great visual power.
Known for his ability to transform everyday life into abstract landscapes, Nguyen Robert is today regarded as one of the singular voices in the delta Mekong’s contemporary painting. He continues his work in his studio in Bên Tre, surrounded by the landscapes that shaped his identity, and he continues to exhibit in several galleries in Asia and Europe, enticing collectors and art lovers seeking deeply modern, structured, and vibrant works.
