Adolf Konrad Walter Bock, born on 5 August 1890 in Berlin, Germany, was a versatile and talented artist who left his mark on various art forms. Bock studied from 1907 to 1909 at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Berlin, where he developed his skills as an illustrator and draftsman. In 1914 he continued his training at the prestigious Königliche Akademie der Künste, also in Berlin, where he further refined his technique.
After his studies, Bock began his career in Berlin, where he worked as a painter and draftsman until 1914. His work from this period shows his early talent and the influences of the academic art education he had received. After World War I, Bock moved to Finland in 1919, where he made a significant contribution to the art scene for twenty years. His time in Finland was characterized by a focus on maritime themes, a subject that would fascinate him throughout his life.
In 1928 Bock spent some time in the Netherlands, where he worked in Rotterdam and Scheveningen. In Rotterdam he created maritime paintings that are still admired, as evidenced by an article in NRC Handelsblad from 2013 discussing a lost panorama of the Rotterdam shipyard Burgerhout. This work not only demonstrates Bock's exceptional talent but also his ability to capture the power and dynamism of the sea. In the same year he painted an impressive scene of a storm in Scheveningen, illustrating his skill in depicting dramatic natural forces.
Viewing is of course possible. In addition, we have our own in-house framing workshop, celebrating its 85th anniversary year. Furthermore, we make use of restorers from the industry association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to take advantage of this, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
