Description from the seller
In Corneille's work, birds are often present as powerful symbols of freedom, movement and imagination. A bird here has a special role: because of its dark color and sleek form, it often stands for mystery, strength or the unknown. Corneille combines the bird with his characteristic bright colors and simplified shapes, making the animal simultaneously formidable and poetic. This fits his CoBrA background, in which spontaneous expression and intuitive imagery are central.
Corneille (1922–2010) was a co-founder of the CoBrA movement and an important innovator within post-war art. His work evolved from abstract to figurative, with recurring themes such as birds, women and flowers. This colorful screen print is a fine example of his later style.
Dimensions: 31 x 22 cm
Viewing possible. We have our own framing workshop (85th anniversary) and work with recognized restorers (Restauratoren Nederland). Please feel free to contact us via our website.
