Jules Atarax (1985) - Right and Wrong, a unique original mixed-media painting on canvas (oil and acrylic), 50 × 50 cm, hand-signed, from the original edition (2010–2020).
Description from the seller
Right and Wrong explore the dark zones of the human condition through a frontal figure that oscillates between mask, archaic presence and psychological mirror.
The face occupies space with an almost ritual intensity. The eyes, immense and luminous, seem to absorb and then reflect the viewer's gaze. The red drips arising from it introduce dramatic tension, while the jagged mouth evokes both the scream, vulnerability and instinct.
At the center of the work appears a discreet inscription: "What is Humanity", which acts as an open question rather than a statement. This inquiry runs through the entire composition and invites the viewer to construct their own reading.
The color palette is deliberately radical: deep blacks, incandescent reds, electric greens, bright yellows and turquoise accents create a constant vibration. The colors do not describe reality; they translate an inner state.
The gestures remain visible, rapid and spontaneous. The material retains the energy of its execution and asserts a direct, instinctive and uncompromising painting.
Between contemporary expressionism, brut art and symbolic figuration, this work develops a personal language where the figure becomes the vehicle for reflection on fear, identity, solitude and humanity itself.
This work is part of an approach close to contemporary expressionism and brut art, privileging direct emotion over academic representation.
This work counts among the very latest canvases currently available from Jules Atarax, while all of the artist's recent pieces have already been acquired, this rare availability offers collectors a privileged opportunity to acquire an original work at a stage where available production becomes extremely limited.
A rare opportunity before the complete disappearance of this series from the market.
