Contextual Note
Second image (2003) is a superb testimony to Jorge Castillo’s graphic maturity, one of the great masters of lyrical surrealism and Spanish expressive figuration of the 20th and 21st centuries. This aquatint stands out for its mastery in combining aquatint textures on the central plate and the subtlety of the polychromatic elements (the yellow bird, the blue upper profiles, and the dense amalgam of Siena-colored faces on the right side).
As it is an Artist’s Proof, the closing of such a carefully curated international edition adds extra appeal for serious collectors of contemporary graphic works.
