Marco Vaccaro, San Girolamo Scrivente, an original oil on canvas from Italy, 110 cm by 90 cm and weighing 2 kg, signed by hand in 2026, a Baroque religious work inspired by Caravaggio in excellent condition and sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
Original work realized in oil on canvas, inspired by the great Italian Baroque tradition and, in particular, by Caravaggio's poetics. The painting depicts Saint Jerome in the act of writing, immersed in a deep meditative and spiritual dimension.
The composition is dominated by intense chiaroscuro: a warm, slanting light shapes the saint's marked face and his long white beard, emerging from a dark and enveloping background. This dramatic contrast enhances the realism of the scene and gives the work a strong emotional charge.
Traditional iconographic elements—the book (on which lies the incipit of the Magnificat), the skull (memento mori), and writing instruments—underscore the theme of reflection on time, knowledge, and spirituality. The tactile quality of the painting, with thick brushstrokes and a palette of earthy and warm tones, recalls the technique of seventeenth-century masters.
A work of great visual impact, ideal for collectors and lovers of sacred art and the Baroque, capable of enriching any space with elegance and depth.
