**The Artist**
Francesca Fontana is an Italian artist based in Ibiza, whose work evokes the light, colors and textures characteristic of the island. Since arriving in Ibiza in 2018 she has devoted her research to abstract painting, developing a unique language deeply tied to the territory. Before this path she collaborated with major names of international fashion including Jean Paul Gaultier and Krizia. Her work is present in prominent permanent galleries such as Sotheby’s Ibiza, the Bernard Boesch Museum in France, Natural Living in Portugal and Casa Bedouin in Cala Carbo. In 2024 she exhibited at Aubergine by ATZARO, the Diario de Ibiza Club, the Far de Ses Coves Blanques Cultural Center, the Can Portmany Cultural Center and the Ibiza Nautical Club. An active artist in full production.

**Title and year**
Title: *Saladeta*
Year: 2024
Technique: Mixed media — Salt from Ibiza (Las Salinas), 3/4K gold leaf, acrylic and resin on canvas on frame
Dimensions: 130 × 81 cm (width × height)

**The work**
"Saladeta" is an abstract expressionist work that recreates the lights, textures and colors of Ibiza using the same materials the island is made of. The salt comes directly from Ibiza’s Las Salinas salt works, fused with minerals, gold leaf and resin on canvas. The result is a living, layered and tactile surface that evokes the island’s marine and mineral landscape through color bands in turquoise, white, beige and gold tones. As the artist explains: "Pinto con la sal, cogida de las Salinas, porque la sal me permite crear una situación y me encanta el proceso químico que tiene detrás. Exprime energía y colores." An artwork that carries the energy and spirituality of Ibiza in every grain of salt.

**Conditions**
Excellent. The artwork is in perfect condition, free of damage, restorations or imperfections. The natural materials used — salt, resin and gold leaf — are intact and stable.

**Notes on the artist**
Francesca Fontana’s work sits within the tradition of material Abstract Expressionism, in dialogue with artists such as Jasper Johns, Martin Assig and Martin Kline, who have explored the use of non-conventional materials as an expressive language. Her research is deeply rooted in the Ibizan landscape: salt, gold and minerals are not simply materials but symbols of transformation and connection with nature. As she herself states: "La fuerte energía de Ibiza me hizo entrar en ósmosis con la esencia mineral de la isla."
