Description from the seller
This oil painting on canvas shows a number of houses on a dike. Signed lower left.
The painting was created by Wilhelm Alexander Knip (Amsterdam, 31 January 1883 – Blaricum, 28 October 1967), a Dutch painter and drawer. He settled in 1905 in the artist village of Laren and spent some years in France, Italy and Spain in the twenties. From 1934 he lived in Blaricum. Knip is regarded as one of the important painters of the Larense School. He painted, watercoloured, and drew with pastel chalk, primarily harbor and city views and landscapes. In addition, he was a member of Arti et Amicitiae, the Kunstenaarsvereniging Sint Lucas, and the Gooische Schildersvereniging. He exhibited several times and received, among other awards, the Sint-Lucas Prize (1942) and the Arti Medal (1953).
