⸻
Auction offer of an important unique work by Edgardo Mannucci, dated 1960, belonging to the most mature and sought-after period of his artistic production.
Crafted using a sophisticated material technique based on adhesives, pastes and tempera, the work unfolds as an intense abstract relief in which the matter takes on a strong plastic and sculptural value. The vibrant red chromatic dominant dialogue with a complex relief structure that emerges from the surface, creating a work of great visual intensity and notable emotional impact.
Regarded as one of the most significant protagonists of 20th-century Italian art, Edgardo Mannucci is best known for his activity as a sculptor, but his research also extended with great originality to material and informal experiments. Throughout his career he participated in numerous exhibitions and international reviews, including several editions of the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennial. His works are today housed in major museums and public and private collections.
Of particular historical interest is the bond that united Mannucci with Alberto Burri, with whom he shared a deep friendship and an intense artistic dialogue. The two artists were protagonists of the postwar Roman scene and participated together in the Group Origine experience, one of the pivotal moments in the birth of Italian informal art. Mannucci’s explorations of matter and relief directly dialogue with those developed by Burri in the same years, making this work a significant testimony of one of the most innovative periods in 20th-century Italian art.
The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by the heirs of Edgardo Mannucci, the only subjects authorized to authenticate the artist’s works, a factor ensuring full reliability and collecting security.
A work of notable quality, belonging to a historically established author and present in 20th-century art literature, particularly interesting for collectors of informal, material and postwar Italian art.
Conditions: good overall condition, with minor signs of time consistent with the age of the work."
