Broer Dobbelsteen (1936–2019), Untitled, 1973, oil on canvas, Cobra style, 157 by 107 cm, original edition, sold with frame, hand-signed.
Description from the seller
Broer Dobbelsteen was a versatile Brabantian artist who made his name mainly with his colorful and expressive paintings. Although he was originally trained as a designer at the academy in Eindhoven, he changed course in 1964 to devote himself entirely to free art. His work, which often revolves around human figures and abstract shapes, is notable for its lively use of color and a very distinct, recognizable handwriting. Until his death in 2019, he remained a prominent figure in the Geldrop region, where he had worked for many years on an oeuvre that still frequently appears with collectors and at art auctions.
The oil paintings by Broer Dobbelsteen are known for their powerful, expressive appearance, heavily influenced by the CoBrA movement. He employed a recognizable technique in which he often worked with thick layers of paint (impasto) and a rough, spontaneous brushwork.
Provenance: Private collection, Netherlands
Lower left signed and dated
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framers, who are celebrating their 85th anniversary year.
