Robert Pothecary (Southampton, 1963) is a British painter who has lived and worked in Sint-Oedenrode, the Netherlands since 1986.
A major theme in his painting is archaeology, an interest he has had since his youth. In various places in southern England as a child he also did 'excavations' hoping to find something of the past. His interest was further aroused by the walled garden of his grandparents, who lived in a Victorian house.
The interest in archaeology grew when, after his studies at Southampton Art College, he began study trips to places with numerous interesting excavation sites such as Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Turkey. All these impressions eventually influenced his work. After first drawing all the impressions on working drawings, these were eventually integrated into his paintings. In his homeland he also worked after his studies for Zillwoods Ltd, a design company that specializes in creating logos.
