Description from the seller
Roland-Henrich Gotschik
Onesti, Romania
Born in 1960
Roland-Henrich Gotschik, a contemporary Romanian painter of German origin, was born in 1960 in Romania, where he spent his formative years before dividing his time between Germany and Romania. His artistic style is characterized as expressionist or, more precisely, post-expressionist.
From his early exhibition experiences, Roland-Henrich was encouraged to further sharpen his skills. Guided by demanding teacher-painters such as Constantin Pușoiu, he delved into various techniques of plastic expression. In the eighties he worked as a church painter and attended courses at the Folk Art School in Constanța. After 1989 he shifted his focus more toward the business climate.
Eight years ago, Roland-Henrich rekindled his passion for art, marked by several group exhibitions in Romania. Specifically, he held solo exhibitions in Germany in 2019 and 2020, notably in Esslingen, and he participated in a group exhibition in Stuttgart. Despite sporadic participation, he enrolled in courses at the Academy of Arts Esslingen between 2019 and 2020, an endeavor disrupted by the pandemic.
Roland-Henrich draws inspiration from the rich customs and traditions of holidays, especially Christmas and New Year in Romania, particularly in Moldova. His paintings often reflect masks and faces from Moldova and Bukovina, regions with deep ancestral traditions rooted in pre-Christian practices. He also finds inspiration in German masks and traditions from Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Despite these influences, his art is firmly anchored in modern abstract art and deserves the label post-expressionist."}
