About
Donald Baechler (1956–2022) was a prominent American artist of the Neo-Expressionism and Post-Pop Art movements. He became known for his unmistakable paintings, collages and sculptures featuring iconic motifs such as flowers, heads, ice cream, globes and everyday symbols. After studying at Cooper Union in New York as well as the Städelschule in Frankfurt, Baechler developed a visual language that fuses pop culture, street art and childlike drawings. His works have been exhibited internationally and today reside in renowned collections such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Whitney Museum and the Centre Pompidou. Donald Baechler is among the defining artists of the New York art scene in the 1980s.
