Kanoyonkei - Ido Masao - Japan

Kanoyonkei 加能四景(かのうよんけい) ｜ Ido Masao 井堂雅夫(いどうまさお)

"Kanoyonkei" represents the regions of Kaga and Noto in the Hokuriku region of Japan, and is a collection of works compiling 4 designs carefully selected by the author from numerous sketches.
Works by Masao Ido overwhelmingly depict shrines, Buddhist temples, and the streets of Kyoto, but this collection includes very rare designs such as festival scenes and sea views.

"Nanao Seihakusai"
This is a festival held in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and is a work that expresses a powerful scene across the entire screen with Japan's largest wheeled festival float, reaching a height of 12 meters.
"Noto Ganmon"
This is a scenic spot in Ishikawa Prefecture where the rock has been eroded by rough waves over many years to become a cave. It was named "Ganmon" due to its magnificent appearance and can be approached by tourist boat, making it one of the scenic tourist spots in the Noto region. Captured at dusk at the spot where it looks most beautiful, it is a work in which the contrast with the background creates a sense of melancholy.
"Natadera Koyo"
Natadera is a temple of Hakusan worship that worships "Hakusan", one of Japan's three famous mountains, and transmits the teachings of "Shizen-chi" (natural wisdom), which pays respect to nature, to the present day.
It is also a scenic spot visited by a very large number of worshippers throughout the year, where you can feel the scenery of each season with your skin. As you climb the stone steps amid the still lush green trees of the temple gate, the beautifully turned red autumn leaves beautifully capture the transition of the seasons, making it a work where you can fully feel the beauty of the four seasons.
"Hakusan Enbo"
This is a scene approaching late autumn, and is a work that beautifully expresses yellow, blue, and evergreen trees from the foreground, and the snow-capped Hakusan mountain range in the background. It is an excellent work composed with the sharp sensibility of Ido and the warm expression unique to woodblock prints, depicting a precious scene that can only be seen for a brief period.
