Description from the seller
An absolute masterpiece of 20th-century Italian sculpture by Francesco Messina. We are honored to present a magnificent large-scale bronze sculpture titled "Danzatrice" (Ballerina) by the world-renowned Italian master Francesco Messina (1900-1995). Conceived during the golden era of his exploration of the ballet and movement theme (circa 1969-1970), this sculpture represents an exceptional example of postwar European figurative modernism. Artistic brilliance and aesthetic impact. The figure depicts a ballerina captured in a moment of intense expressive tension, with arms elegantly extended and the body balanced on tiptoe. Messina's unique surface treatment creates an extraordinary play of light and shadow, enhanced by a rich and vibrant original emerald-green patina. The sculpture is anchored to its original, monumental, multi-level black marble base, which emphasizes its slender proportions and majestic verticality. This work is among the artist's most highly protected, internationally celebrated and sought-after icons in his extensive catalog. The piece is signed by the master on the bronze base ("Messina") and bears the edition/fusion number stamped by the historic art foundry (such as Venturi Arte). Works from this series are housed in prestigious institutions, including the Studio Museo Francesco Messina in Milan. Impeccable condition with an authentic, mature, and undisturbed patina. A top-tier acquisition for collectors of museum-level Italian modern sculpture. Dimensions of the sculpture: 53 cm x 40 cm x 14 cm. The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped with contracted couriers and online tracking. For this lot, no shipments outside the European Community.
