Il Ceppo – HISTORY OF THE BRAND

Il Ceppo represents one of the most authentic and elegant realities of Italian pipemaking from the Marche school in Pesaro.

The origins of the brand go back to the early 1970s, but it is in 1978 that the brand acquires a true international identity thanks to architect Giorgio Imperatori, an enthusiastic collector and connoisseur of Italian handcrafted pipes.

In 1995 the workshop passes into the hands of Franco Rossi, a craftsman who had collaborated with Bruto Sordini of Don Carlos and with the milieu of the historic Pesaro school also linked to Ser Jacopo and Mastro de Paja.

Il Ceppo pipes are famous for:
- almost entirely manual workmanship;
- seasoned briar for long periods;
- excellent smokability;
- precise finishes;
- Italian classic style reinterpreted with strong personality.

Over the years Franco Rossi developed a recognizable style, characterized by elegant lines, large flame veneers and sometimes particular faceted heads, today very sought after by collectors.

Production has always remained deliberately limited, with about 1500 pipes per year, many of which exported to the United States, where the brand enjoys an excellent reputation among enthusiasts of handcrafted Italian pipes.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PIPE

The specimen shown is an elegant straight billiard of large size, branded:

“IL CEPPO”
“MADE BY HAND”
“ITALY”
shape E4858

The pipe features:
an important length of about 158 mm;
very slender and elegant line;
splendid natural vertical flame;
superior quality briar;
classic black mouthpiece well proportioned;
broad and deep chamber;
excellent aesthetic balance typical of the Pesaro school.
The stylistic setting recalls the best Italian productions of the 1980s and 1990s:
sober, functional pipes, but with a strong artisanal character.
The briar quality appears very good, with warm, regular grain that enhances the elongated head shape.
The overall condition is very good, with normal light use compatible with a vintage artisanal pipe well preserved.
COLLECTIBLE VALUE AT PRESENT
For a Il Ceppo handmade specimen of this level, 158 mm long, well preserved and with beautiful natural flame, the current realistic market value is:

€220 / 240
