Anton Heyboer (1924-2005) - YM 348

This is a beautiful and historically interesting early work by Anton Heyboer from 1951! It seems to be an expressive painting (oil paint/mixed technique with ink/clay-like texture) featuring the boat YM 348 in the port of IJmuiden/Ymuiden, with the inscriptions “Aantrekkend vermogen 1951” and “3 jaar paligenin de haven”. This directly refers to his personal history: in 1951 he lived briefly on his fishing boat in IJmuiden, after his admission to the psychiatric hospital Santpoort, and experimented with a free, independent life. Heyboer’s most valued period is precisely the 1950s to the 1970s; this 1951 piece falls into that early, rarer category and has strong autobiographical value.
