The painter and engraver Georges DUSSAU was born in 1947 in CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE. He now divides his time and work between MELLECEY (Saône-et-Loire) and MOUGINS (Alpes-Maritimes). Georges DUSSAU studied art at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in PARIS. He began his career as a painter in 1969 and had his first solo exhibition at the Hôtel de Ville gallery in CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE in 1971. The young man dreamed of becoming an artist, and that dream came true in the early 70s, when he moved to PARIS to present his work; he was quickly noticed for his talent and his style. It is with editor and gallery owner Jacqueline de CHAMPVALLINS that he earned his noble letters. For more than 50 years now, an artist of abstract expression, he focuses on techniques of oil painting, screen printing, engraving, and mixed media. His works are characterized by a range of vibrant colors, an expressive use of color and form. Georges DUSSAU combines fluid lines with fragmented geometric shapes. Over his long career, the artist has exhibited his work in more than a hundred shows around the world. His works have been shown in many cities, notably PARIS, TOKYO, NEW YORK and HONG KONG. He has regularly participated in international contemporary art fairs (DÜSSELDORF, FRANKFURT, …). His works are part of the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou in PARIS and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in NEW YORK. A tireless worker, a perpetual creator, Georges DUSSAU transports us into a poetic universe that is entirely his own. “I have spent my life having fun in my studio while working seriously,” he writes. Even just in engraving, nearly 680 original works have been produced in a little over 50 years! A prolific artist, one who is prolific indeed, he writes: “The great happiness is to live from one’s passion.”
