Charcoal on paper

Artwork size: 60 x 43 cm
Size with frame: 78 x 59 cm
Provenance: from a Dutch private collection
Arnout Jacobus Gustaaf Colnot (Amsterdam, January 26, 1887 – Bergen (NH), July 14, 1983) was a Dutch painter, graphic artist, draftsman and lithographer. He is regarded as belonging to the Bergense School. From 1913 to 1932 he lived in Bergen, North Holland, where during that period many artists worked in the Bergense School style. Between 1943 and 1969 he lived in Amsterdam, after which he settled again in Bergen toward the end of his life.
Colnot made several art trips, including to Bruges and Paris. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam and of the Vereeniging Sint Lucas. His work shows the characteristic traits of the Bergense School: figurative compositions with cubist influences and an expressionist touch in dark tones. His work is in various museum collections.
Viewing is, of course, possible. In addition we have our own in-house framing shop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary year. We also use restorers from the trade association: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you would like to use this service, we would be pleased to hear from you.
