Description from the seller
This is a beautiful, blond work by Dirk Filarski, depicting a bouquet of flowers—a beloved motif within his oeuvre. In this case it is tulips. The little statuette in front of the vase and the fruits in the foreground give the painting extra character and contribute a playful and distinctive accent. The bright tonal quality and the fresh use of color give the whole piece a markedly spring-like appearance.
Dirk Herman Willem Filarski (Amsterdam, October 15, 1885 – Zeist, February 28, 1964) was a Dutch painter and is counted among the Bergense School. During his career he participated in more than three hundred exhibitions. His work elicited both sharp criticism and great appreciation. He received various distinctions, medals, and honorary exhibitions, and his oeuvre drew the attention of museums and private collectors both in the Netherlands and abroad.
This work is dated 1948. In this period Filarski again worked with a lighter palette and made several trips, which is reflected in a fresh and open painting style. His work is housed among others in the collections of Museum Kranenburgh (Bergen), the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, the Kunstmuseum Den Haag (formerly Haags Gemeentemuseum), Museum Henriëtte Polak (Zutphen), and in various private collections.
