Biography: Isis Kischka (Paris, 1908-1973) was a French figurative painter.
Her parents, immigrants from the Russian Empire, settled in Paris.
Isis Kischka completed part of her studies in Dreux. He experienced concentration camps during World War II, near Compiègne, where he notably met artist-painter Abraham-Joseph Berline (1894-1944). He survived the internment. A seller of men's shirts, he became passionate about Art.
Of expressionist tendency, he was the founding president of the Salon of Painters Witnessing Their Time, of which he served as secretary-general until his death in 1973. With the help of Georges Reccio, the association took shape: he organized annual exhibitions at the Musée d'Art Moderne and at the Musée Galliera in Paris, highlighting promising artists around overarching themes. A posthumous tribute was paid to him in 1975, on the theme: "Comme Il Vous Plaira...", at the Orangerie in the French capital.
In 2001, the works from his workshop were dispersed in an auction.
The Museum of Art and History of Meudon holds many drawings from the Salon des Peintres Témoins de Leur Temps that belonged to Kischska, who did not sign the majority of his works.
