Bernard Aubertin, Tableau Clous, original mixed-media work on a wood panel with nails, 50 x 50 cm, dated 1969, framed and signed by hand on the back.
Description from the seller
A historic masterwork of absolute museum-quality, by the internationally renowned French master Bernard Aubertin (Fontenay-aux-Roses, 1934 - Reutlingen, 2015), a leading figure of the international ZERO avant-garde movement.
This work belongs to his most famous, iconic, and legally cataloged series: the "Tableau Clous" (Nail Paintings).
For Aubertin, the canvas is an energetic laboratory. In this series, he applies a dense, calculated, and rhythmic forest of real metal nails directly onto a rigid wooden panel, completely immersed in his characteristic monochrome Fire Red. The monochrome surface becomes an active structural field in which the spatial repetition of the nails generates optical and dynamic vibration. Depending on the room’s lighting, the nails cast shifting shadows, breaking the two-dimensionality of traditional painting to absorb and structure the physical space and ambient light. A rare and impactful work of art, with a spectacular visual aesthetic, ideal for modern architecture collections.
Support and technique in acrylic, enamel, and iron nails on solid wood board.
Exceptional, perfect, as-new condition. All nails are solid, sharp, and securely anchored. The monochrome red pigment is fresh, vibrant, and evenly saturated, with no fading.
The work, a unique exemplar, is hand-signed and dated by the maestro on the back, a standard practice for Aubertin’s official corpus. The lot will be sold accompanied by the official photographic certificate issued by the Bernard Aubertin Opera Archive with number TCLB05-1000558284.
The lot will be adequately packaged and shipped with contracted couriers and online tracking.
Shipments outside the European Community are not made.
