Offered is a rare original woodcut by the Dachau artist Otto Wirsching-Dachau.

Dating: circa 1915
Subject size: approx. 25.7 × 20.9 cm, according to comparison evidence
Depiction: A ship in heavy seas, a sailor with a mermaid in his arm, bottom right a rat jumping overboard. At the top of the image a banner with the Latin inscription IN TEMPESTATE SECURITAS.
Label: bottom left described as original woodcut / hand print, bottom right signed “Otto Wirsching-Dachau”.

Otto Wirsching was born in 1889 in Nuremberg and died in 1919 in Dachau. He was a painter and wood engraver and is attributed to the Dachau artist milieu. In Dachau he turned especially to graphics and worked, among other things, for the Dachauer Einhorn-Verlag.
The work comes from the liquidation of a private art collection and is offered privately, not commercially.
