Oswaldo Guayasamín is an expressionist painter of social realism. He is regarded as one of the great masters of Ecuadorian art, on par with (among others) Eduardo Kingman, Enrique Tábara, Félix Arauz, Juan Villafuerte and Aníbal Villacís. His foundation-museum in Quito houses three thousand pieces, of which fifteen hundred are on permanent display.
