Leo Jordaens is a Belgian artist born in 1944 in Merksem and who died in 2000 in Antwerp. He was a painter. Son and student of Leon Jordaens; subsequently developed autodidactically. Painted among other things landscapes, seascapes with boats, marine scenes, still lifes with flowers. His works are characterized by expressive masses of clouds and a striking play of light and color. From the press: ‘L.J. is a born colorist. He loves cadmiums, but works only in a trio of tones – for example red, yellow and blue – that build the painting entirely (…) In his work, nature lives, the open space. He has eliminated people. You see crops, trees (especially willow trees), haystacks, hooves that reflect, ships, a river bend, the city skyline, the harbor approaches, the activity in the port, industry, and the winter atmosphere passing before your eyes. (1978) Signed L. Jordaens. He was active in Deurne. Mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
