This Morrison “The Patriot,” one of the most distinctive fountain pen nibs, loaded with history and coveted from the World War II era, presents itself in a truly enviable state of preservation. The barrel and cap, made of resin in a sober military olive drab green, retain a deep, clean, and uniform shine, reflecting a magnificently cared-for surface completely free of the usual cracks, fissures, or discolorations so common in wartime pens.
The original 14-karat solid gold nib stands out superbly: it bears the classic engraving of the New York brand “MORRISON - 14K - N.Y.” impeccably sharp, with its tines perfectly aligned and the iridium tip intact, symmetric and without the slightest deformation or twist. The black ebonite grip section preserves its original jet-black tone without opacities. The feeder is clean, structurally perfect, aligned, and in an exact central position.
Regarding the metal details, the characteristic art déco clip bearing the inscription “MORRISON” in relief and the cap ring maintain a clean, bright gold plating with excellent tension. The definitive and most iconic element for its extremely high collectible value crowns the top of the inclined cap: the three-dimensional gold insignia of the Great Seal of the United States (the American Eagle). As seen in the macro shots, the military emblem retains spectacular definition in its reliefs, free of wear from rubbing.
A crucial factor for this piece is the extraordinary sharpness of its imprint. The longitudinal engraving on the body remains clean, deep, and perfectly legible: “The Patriot” - MORRISON FOUNTAIN PEN CO. - NEW YORK, N.Y. U.S.A., finished at its lower line with the corresponding patents. This attests to the minimal level of friction the surface has endured over the decades.
Mechanically, this model from Morrison’s patriotic series operates with the reliable lever filler system, whose gold lever fits firmly and flush to the side of the body.
In conclusion, this is a showpiece, highly evocative, robust, and preserved to an extraordinarily high historical standard. An indispensable piece of the archaeology of writing from wartime, which will enrich any high-level collection.
Happy bidding!
