PICTURE ME:
Save what you don’t want to lose; that is the thesis of this photo series. Photographer Ursula van de Bunte (b. 1969) has to date taken more than a hundred photographs of her model and muse Paul Rooyackers (b. 1951). Born from her quiet fear of losing Paul, this process evolved from simple portrait photography into a unique series with more staged work, in which she captures Paul again and again in different ways and from new perspectives, and tries to immortalize him. In this way the photos serve as an antidote to, and at the same time as a testament to, the inevitable transience. The Picture Me series has received much recognition: a book of the same name was published, the photos were shown at various exhibitions in the Netherlands, and the series won the audience prize during the Fotovakschool exhibition in Amsterdam.
This is a print on high-quality Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. The size is 41x31 and it is mounted on 2mm PVC. This is the first edition of 12 copies.

Passionate, sensitive and with an eye for detail, light and color, would be a nice description of Ursula's approach. She is perfectionistic, enthusiastic and diligent; she will only be satisfied when the well-known WOW factor has been achieved.
With her artworks she aims to bring her subjects forward in the purest possible way. Ursula transforms objects into powerful still lifes and the portraits are a reflection of a bygone era, where from time to time a splash of modern life is incorporated.
Her work is unconventional and the use of light leans toward her sources of inspiration: the paintings of Jacques-Louis David, Rembrandt and Caravaggio.
As a photographer Ursula also seeks to distinguish herself through diversity in her work, and beside individual creations she makes series, where multiple images tell one story. She is notably discovered with her intriguing, still lifes: the series Plastic Vegetables and the series House-4-Sale. These works have been awarded with various prizes, among them for the series “de 100 van Rooyackers.”
