Description from the seller
In a magistral chiaroscuro worthy of the Dutch Golden Age, a noble seventeenth-century lady, dressed in a rich black velvet gown and adorned with an imposing lace ruff, poses with unwavering solemnity. Yet the absolute seriousness of her aristocratic expression violently contrasts with the ongoing action: she delicately savors the fries from a famous red fast-food cone of contemporary origin. This unexpected intrusion of mass consumer culture into the heart of a classic portrait creates a strikingly anachronistic and deeply ironic effect. The work captivates by its faultless technical execution, where light caresses with equal nobility the delicacy of the lace and the crispy golden hues of the fries. Le Yack signs here a brilliant piece, questioning with subversive humor our relation to icons of art history and to globalization.
